Ends on

Hey, Boston! It’s time to show off your civic pride. The City of Boston Digital Team in partnership with the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture want to celebrate our logo, the Boston B.

For many major holidays, the City sends out a graphic or message on our social channels depicting custom B’s, similar to the ones below from last year's Holiday 'B' Contest:

With hundreds of holidays, our designers aren’t able to create custom artwork for all holidays . That’s where the artists of Boston come in.

We’re asking local artists, students and residents to choose a holiday - any holiday! - and create an idea for a custom B. Your imagination is your only limit -- send us a as complete a design as possible to represent the B for your chosen holiday.

A team of individuals from the Digital Team and the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture will review each proposal and pick projects based on the best creative expression of the represented holiday. We will then ask the selected artist to make the artwork.

Up to 25 proposals, each representing a different holiday, will be selected.

  • You must be an artist living or working in the city of Boston.

  • You can send as many submissions as you would like. Only one submission per holiday.

  • Application will open on April 1, 2021.

  • Deadline for proposals is 5 p.m. on April 30, 2021.

  • All proposals and eventual submission must be digital and uploaded to Submittable.

  • You must use the B graphic found here.

  • Other than the graphics/logos/marks we provide you, all other content must be original.

  • No offensive imagery. Inclusions of these materials will automatically disqualify the work submitted by an individual.

  • You own all of your work, no matter what happens. By proposing and submitting, you grant the City of Boston the right to display the work on our print and digital channels indefinitely.

  • The City will be offering a stipend of $50 in addition to credit to the artists for designs that are chosen.

  • We will only be selecting one design for each holiday.

  • There is no guarantee that by submitting a proposal, your artwork will be shown by the City. We reserve the right to use chosen artwork across media.

  • We’re open to participants using any type of medium that can be digitized and used for social media (we can help you with this).

  • Applicants must become vendors with the City of Boston and submit a W-9 to submit a complete application.

  • Applications must be received from the applicant.

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
